Social Media Goes Over at Wrestlemania
Last weekend, the WWE hosted its annual showcase event, Wrestlemania, and as predicted, the use of social media was intrinsic to its successful buzz-generating campaign. The facts of the aftermath are staggering; 110 WWE-related topics trended on Twitter in 5 hours with the hashtag, “#wrestlemania”, being tweeted 610,000 times. Wrestlemania content on YouTube was viewed 3.9 million times, stemming from a partnership between WWE and YouTube. There was also a 30% traffic increase to wwe.com from the previous year, breaking it’s traffic record in the process. To paraphrase Chris Jericho, it’s axiomatic that the WWE’s social media team is the best in the world at what it does, from these results.
