Zuckerberg Endorsement Leads to Major Success for Start-Up
Over the weekend, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg let his 15 million subscribers on Facebook know that he was grilling a Fred’s Steak with the aid of an app that keeps track of food’s temperature and lets you know what else is being grilled around the world, called iGrill. iGrill was a moderately successful start up business, with 70,000 visitors to the site every month. Within minutes of Zuckerberg’s recommendation, the site was receiving 1,000 visitors per minute, which eventually resulted in the site crashing. The spike in visitors was also translated into sales; the amount of app downloads (which tended to be a few thousand a month) skyrocketed according to iGrill CEO Christopher Allen. iGrill are now selling their thermometers free of shipping charge to those who use the promotional code ‘ZUCK’ when ordering.
